Trauma Intervention Program

When tragedy strikes, first responders and law enforcement officers have many crucial functions to perform. Comforting and supporting trauma victims can impede their required duties. This is where TIP volunteers come in. Volunteers offer “emotional first aid” and direct survivors towards resources.

In 2019 I completed a 50-hour trauma and grief support training with TIP OC. This experience expanded my skillset in emergency response, psychological support, and grief counseling. I was inspired to engage in this training after finding myself in the midst of traumatic situations and not having the toolkit to appropriately respond. I then briefly volunteered with TIP OC, and while I discovered that trauma work was not for me, I strengthened new skills and grew an immense respect and love for TIP volunteers and first responders.
